Being born in Charleston and having roamed the surrounding coastal islands in his youth, artist John Carroll Doyle painted the lowcountry with passion and understanding.
"In the Spring of 2002, I wandered through the downtown streets of Charleston trying to select a subject to paint from the flood of colors emerging everywhere in the Old City.
At the corner of Ladson and Meeting Streets red and white Azaleas caught my attention.
The beautiful white and crimson blossoms seemed to say..."Look at me! It's Spring, don't you know; and everything is going to be alright."
